Hi, I’m Marna Cathleen, founder of Standing Strong Within. I help professional men and women achieve Somatic Emotional Empowerment through trauma-informed coaching. Over the years, I’ve supported countless people who felt trapped by anxiety, always on edge, overthinking, and unable to fully relax into their lives. I know what it’s like to feel that constant inner pressure. But I also know there’s another way forward.
Anxiety doesn’t have to run the show. Through body-centered awareness and emotional intelligence, you can begin to flip the script, moving from fear and self-doubt to calm confidence and personal power.
Below are some foundational mental shifts that can help you start breaking free from anxiety today.
1. From Control to Curiosity
When anxiety strikes, the natural response is to try to control everything—your thoughts, emotions, and even other people’s reactions. But true freedom begins when you let go of control and lean into curiosity instead.
Ask yourself: What is my anxiety trying to tell me?
Every anxious feeling carries a message. Instead of fighting it, explore it. Notice where it lives in your body, how it feels, and what it might be pointing toward. This small shift — from judgment to gentle curiosity — creates space for self-understanding and growth.
2. From Overthinking to Embodiment
Anxiety lives in the mind, but healing begins in the body. When you’re anxious, your nervous system is on high alert—sending signals of danger even when you’re safe. By grounding yourself through breath, posture, and mindful movement, you help your body remember what calm feels like.
Try placing a hand over your heart, inhaling deeply, and exhaling slowly. This simple act reminds your body that you’re safe, allowing your thoughts to soften and your emotions to regulate. Somatic awareness helps you get out of your head and into your life.
3. From Resistance to Acceptance
Many people believe they have to eliminate anxiety before they can live fully. But the truth is, the more you resist what you feel, the stronger it becomes. Acceptance doesn’t mean giving in to anxiety, it means acknowledging it without letting it define you.
When you can sit with discomfort and trust your capacity to feel it, you reclaim your inner power. You begin to respond rather than react, turning anxiety into wisdom and emotional resilience.
4. From Self-Criticism to Compassion
Anxiety often feeds on the harsh inner critic, the voice that says you’re not enough, not doing enough, or not handling things the “right” way. The antidote is compassion.
Compassion softens the edges of anxiety and helps regulate your nervous system. It allows you to meet yourself where you are, rather than where you think you “should” be. Each time you choose self-kindness over self-criticism, you strengthen your emotional stability and begin to feel safe within your own body.
5. From Reactivity to Conscious Choice
Anxiety thrives on automatic reactions, those moments when you spiral into worry before you even realize it. But through somatic coaching, you can learn to pause and bring awareness to your body before responding.
This practice helps you reconnect with your core values and make choices that align with who you truly are. Over time, you’ll notice that the same triggers no longer hold the same power over you.
